Personal Branding is my specialty! Once I understood the concept it literally changed my business. It’s especially important for network markers. Most newbie MLM’ers come online and make the mistake of branding their companies outright.
They litter their social media platforms with the name of their company and boast about how their company is the best and will change everyone’s lives that jump onboard. While this may be a true statement, they are going about promoting it in the wrong way.
Don’t feel bad if you’re marketing this way though, I did the same thing before I learned about Personal Branding for my business.
See, the problem with branding your company instead of YOU is that people don’t care!
Seriously!
They ignore you anytime you mention your company because they know you are just trying to sell them something. And people don’t come on social media to be sold to.
That’s just one reason…
There are even more serious implications that can arise when you brand your company online instead of personally branding yourself but, I won’t get into that here, I’ll save that for another post. =)
Just know that every MLM businessperson should be aware of branding themselves.
Okay, so what is this amazing marketing strategy we call personal branding?
Pure and simple, Personal Branding is marketing YOU.
It’s important to market everything associated with your business, and that includes you. Many people will buy from you because of who YOU ARE and not just because of what you’re offering.
It’s a well-known fact that people buy from those they KNOW, LIKE, AND TRUST.
Even if your prospect is excited about what your product can do for her, much of her decision is about you and how she perceives you.
So let’s see how you can get your beautiful face out into the lime light through Personal Branding.
Create Your Personal Brand Image.
It’s not just about putting your name and face on everything you do. You need to decide on what image you want to present. Who are you? What are you all about? What is your story? When you answer these questions you’ll be able to project your authentic self. It should truly be you, but it should focus on integrity and your strengths. How do you want potential prospects and customers to view you?
- Your image should be represented by everything you say and do in your marketing materials, including what you post on social media. Your Personal Branding is in every email you send out, social media post you make and every conversation you have. Keep that image constant.
- Give this some serious thought. Consider the type of person you would want to do business with. That’s the type of person you want to be. That’s the image you want others to have of you.
Personal Branding to Attract Attention. (Attraction Marketing)
Whenever you’re marketing your product, include yourself in the marketing. The two are forever entwined.
- Let your personality shine through! There is no one on this planet just like you! However, there are a lot of people that have similar beliefs, quirks, interests etc. You want to play on your attributes to attract your perfect prospect. When you show your authentic self in all of your marketing, people similar to you will respond. If you’re an introvert, let that shine! If you have a dry sense of humor, love snakes, are a vegetarian or you just love to work in fluffy slippers, let it show. Your tribe will respond!
- Send out regular updates to all your list of customers and leads. Tell them what you’re doing and what’s going on in your life. Be real with them, share your day. If they like you, they’re more likely to purchase from you. Give them a reason to want to know you.
- Write articles and blog post relevant to your business and post them on social media. Then send links to those articles to your list as well. These shouldn’t be salesy at all, they should educate and provide value.
TIP: You should have your own website/blog. You shouldn’t be sending people to a replicated company site.
Personal Brand: The Way To Becoming The Expert.
For example, become known as the expert on building an email list or on building a great downline. It’s easier to become an expert on one thing than on ten. The funny thing is, once you’re considered to be an expert on one aspect of MLM, you’re assumed to be an expert on everything related to MLM.
- Being considered an expert carries a lot of weight. There is no better way to boost your personal-brand among your fellow marketers and prospects.
- Another plus is that marketers luvvv to buy information. Sell them products based on your expertise that can HELP them build their business. You might even make a better living doing this than you do on your own MLM business! Just sayin’ 😉
Play In Your Sandbox!
Be a part of your community. Volunteer. Join your local chamber of commerce. Find something worthwhile to be part of and contribute your time. Not only are you being a good person, but you’re also getting your brand out there in a very positive way. This makes for great material to put on your web page or your email updates.
So that’s it!
That’s how it works in a nutshell.
There is a bit of an art to this personal branding thing but, once you get the hang of it, you will be amazed how easy it becomes to build your business.
Follow any successful MLM distributor and you will see that they are selling themselves not their companies.
If you can’t sell yourself, it’s very difficult to sell your products.
Marketing YOU is much more fun and satisfying than being a boring spokesperson or “sales distributor” for some MLM company. These companies tell you that you are in business for yourself, so build YOUR business and sell people on the awesomeness that is YOU.
Work on your self-branding and make it part of your life. Consider every interaction that you have to be an opportunity to present yourself in a way that is consistent with the image you want to project.
Get out in your community, become the authority online and spread the good word (tactfully) about how great you and your business really are. It’s not just about marketing your products; it’s about marketing yourself, too. Give your brand image a lot of thought and have fun with it; it really is critical to your success.
When your brand improves, so do your sales and your business grows as a result!
